Renault JB3 / JH3 / JC5 Torsen LSD: traction & performance

Improve traction and stability on your Renault with this helical-gear limited-slip differential (Torsen type). Designed for Renault JB3 gearboxes (nut version), JC5 and certain JH3, fitted to many models: Clio, Mégane, Twingo, Renault 19, Clio Williams, Renault 5 and GT Turbo (depending on gearbox/build). Ideal for sporty use and competition, it delivers progressive and stable torque transfer with no harsh lock-up.

Helical-gear LSD: no plates, durable & progressive

Unlike a plate-type LSD, this unit has no friction plates and no clutch packs to wear out. Torque biasing is smooth, with no brutal locking, keeping the handling predictable and improving traction on acceleration.

Reinforced construction

Made from forged Nickel-Chromoly steel with treatments/finishes (such as cryogenic treatment, shot peening and WPC surface treatment) to increase surface hardness, fatigue resistance and service life in harsh conditions.

Performance gains

Compared to an open differential, this LSD improves traction, reduces wheelspin and increases cornering speed. Reported testing shows an average gain of around 1 second per kilometre, depending on setup and discipline.

Choose the right version: 2 differential types on Renault JB3 gearboxes

There are 2 differential systems on Renault JB3 gearboxes. We supply LSDs for both versions:

• Circlip-retained end: found on older JB3 and on certain JH3 gearboxes.
• Nut-retained end: found on newer JB3 and the very popular JC5 gearboxes.

Identify your gearbox without opening it (very easy)

You can determine the gearbox type by checking the driveshaft oil seals:

• 70 mm seal → gearbox with nut-retained end
• 56 mm seal → gearbox with circlip-retained end

Oil recommendations (important)

• Use OEM gearbox oil or a 100% synthetic oil without LSD-specific additives (those additives are intended for plate-type LSDs).
• Install tip: add a little oil directly inside the LSD during installation (the factory anti-rust oil is not lubrication).
